Greyhounds in Training

Email

Peter's interest in greyhounds started at the age of seven when he accompanied his father to tracks around the country. His father has owned greyhounds which raced at West Ham, White City, Romford, Harringay, Kings Heath, Clapton & Hackney Wick. Sunday was Kennel visiting day and nothing prevented Peter from going along. His interest grew and when old enough he helped out at the kennels owned by the late, great Bill Westcott. At the age of twenty-one Peter had his own licence and rented a yard to train from.

He was lucky to have the very experienced help of another old favourite trainer, the late Mr Norman Chambers. After much success on the Open circuit, Peter was offered a contract as a trainer at Rayleigh Stadium. He moved on to Rochester Stadium and eventually joined Romford in 1976. Greyhounds in Peter's care have won some very prestigious races.

They include:

  • The Pall Mall
  • The Oaks
  • The Puppy Oaks
  • The Essex Vase (twice)
  • The Arc de Triumph
  • The Laurals
  • The Scurry Gold Cup
  • The Carrols International
  • The Evening Standard Challenge Cup
  • The Golden Hammer
  • The Mistley Trojan Golden Sprint
  • The Christmas puppy Cup
  • And many other more minor opens.
