The majority of Peter's greyhounds run at Romford Stadium.
Most run in graded races which basically means that the Racing Manager selects six dogs to race against each other
who he thinks will all dead heat with one another. This is great for punters as all dogs in a race have around
about the same chance of winning and for the bookies where odds of 7/2 the field are not unusual.
An owner receives a pass which allows him or her up to three guests admission without payment to any meeting [if
ownership is shared the pass is down graded so that no more than four owners receive complimentary admission in
rspect of one greyhound]. This is very welcome. The management at the Stadium meet with owners twice a year which
is a welcome opportunity for a frank exchange of views. With the exception of Hove [which is in the same ownership
as Romford], We are not aware of any track which has such consultation.
The Stadium has excellent facilities for watching racing and not surprisingly it gets very busy especially on Friday
and Saturday nights. For owners who like things more subdued Monday and Wednesday night meetings are quieter. Racing
from the Track is also broadcast to betting shops on a Saturday morning and Thursday afternoon . The Track is quiet
during these meetings but for owners who can't make all evening meetings these broadcasts are a wonderful chance
to watch one's dog from the local bookies.
The majority of races are held over four [400metres] and six [575metres] bends. The four bend races are graded
A1[best] to A8 [least good] and the six bend races are graded M1 [best] to M6 [least good]. Hurdle races are held
over both distances and occasional two and eight bend races are run. Regular open races are held and Friday is
open night.
Racing at Romford is therefore commended to prospective owners and punters looking for a good night's entertainment.
The Stadium was voted Track of the Year for 1999. For more details telephone 01708-762345. |
